The Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze said that Ahiska Turks who migrated from Southern Georgia in 1944 would be able to return to their home in stages. During a press conference, Shevardnadze evaluated his visit to Turkey and said that during his meetings with the Turkish President, Suleyman Demirel, they had discussed issues such as energy resources in the CaspianBasin, the Kars-Ahilkelek-Tbilisi railway and natural gasprojects. Shervardnadze noted that Turkey is of great importance to Georgia due to both the guidelines of cooperation with NATO and economic relations.
